Anyone physiotherapists know what gym exercises are good to target muscle groups for endurance & lactic acid tolerance for speed jigging?

I can do 6 -8 full drops at 200m with 400 gm zests before having a couple of "slow" ones to recover ha ha.
I do a few comps and will love to be able to jig for a hour or so solid at a time.
see guys going hard at for well over a hour and just don't seem to tire....

Talk to Pottsy off this forum. He works on some techniques, like doing the vertical jigging movement with some weights

For straight gym work, upright rows whether free weights or pully would assist greatly, especially when concentrating on maintaing core rigidity and balance while doing them. Higher reps rather than the std bulk up routine of 6-10 reps would help endurance. How you stand and hold your mid section while jigging is important, the better your frame/structure stance, the more control, better technique and less energy used to do it.

Use the pimpin hand!!! LOL

Heres an idea: Pyramid sets
Get jig set up, tie leader to tow ball or something solid low to the ground.
Start with fairly light drag, practice jigging for one minute... rest 20 seconds
Up drag slightly and jig another minute.... rest 20 seconds
Repeat each set putting drag up each time until you cant do it anymore.
Then do the same but in revers letting drag down each time.

3-4 times a week. Protien shake afterwards

That'll get ya sortedLOL

Can you imagine seeing someone doing that...I'd piss myself LOL

However, this would have to be the most effective

Hammer Curls mate for Biceps aim at minimum of 15 reps of 4 sets
Upright Rows once again high rep at 4 sets
Bent Over Barbell Rows same situation again

General Cardio required for sustained periods of jigging i would recommend.

So thats the Jigging part... Now fighting the fish. You hear the complaint alot about sore lower backs. 1 of 2 things here. Poor form fighting fish and/or weak lower back.

Exercise for this i would work on
Deadlifts (once again lower weight and higher reps) Make sure your form is legit here.
Back Extensions - definitely a solid exercise here.

There is an article i wrote a couple of issues ago in NZ FISHING WORLD on tactics to fight kings. If you can find that have a read.

Getting out there and jigging regularly helps from a technique and fitness point of view. I have no magic answers as I was starting to feel a bit puffed after a full day jigging of 420s
Generally biceps curls and weight from straight out in front and lift up above head with 2 hands etc
Probably should do a lot more weights
Probably more in line with Petes jigging and Heineken technique

Was thinking upright rows myself & some solid core work!

A bit hard down here to jig fish in winter with 7m swells we've been having lately.
Should be sorted & up to scratch come summer time / comp time!

I used to practice with an old bicycle tube, stand on loop and do repetitive arm curls. Worked well

Mate i thought the same thing. Well not quite a bicycle tube. I was thinking more the Cross Fit Bands. You can get different resistant bands and what have you. But dam good idea the bike tube

Nothing like a 5 or 7 day charter to get your stamina up/speed.......I just used to do general weights the day before a one day charter and i felt strong to fight the kings....Arms and shoulders......
sorry but jigging all that way/winding hard  is a waste of energy.......listen to the skip and jig 10 metres either side.......its a long day jigging and its best to pace yourself.........Go to a lighter jig set up when you feel ****ed......I used to jig 420 all the time(300 when rooted)......500 at ranfurly/white/kings.
You could just as easily speed wind a long 300 gram jig like a zest hardy long.......that would be my call.....they are huge for their weight.Wink
Once the idiots turn up..Im outta here...No time for Drama Queens.

Pretty much got about 5m of leader on and I just drop back down once I hit leader.

Never know what's chasing your lure & another few meters might be enough to entice a bite!
