i haven't fished there for about 15 years, wasn't overly good then so I doubt too much has changed since...
Birkenhead wharf use to fish better IMHO, but still gotta wonder whether its worth the effort
top answer Phatso.
Well if you can only fish the wharfs then at this time of year Id be fishing maybe murrays bay wharf or in a month or 2 devenport rather than northcote point or birkenhead I'm thinking they would fish better later in the year when the fish come up into the harbour.
JK has nailed it for ya ,
B/head wharf is more of a summer spot IMHO
But.....maybe worth targeting Trevs this time of year.....smaller hooks and baits
I got messed up by a Kingie 2 summers back off B/head, and was catching Snaps in the yak withing casting distance of the wharf not more than 4 months back
from the wharf ya dont have to cast far but all depends on how clear the water is. Night fishing use to be ok there.
The rocks or point is easy to get to. Follow the track around the headland towards rothsay bay and you'll eventually come to a big drain on ya right. Theres a track by the drain that takes ya down to the point. pretty easy to get down but can be slippery sometimes. Rocky bottom so best to fish floating baits. have caught the odd snappes, kahawai and rays there over the years. This point is a good spot to fish when the wharf is busy
