anybody got 1 im looking at one of them or a shaimano baitrunner
 
they reckon finnor has a massive drag  30kg stopping power but hmm
 
any adivce would be good before i go and spend a fortune tomorrow. want it for genarl fishing and to target kingys

I got a Fin nor 7500 and I like it. Solid drag and massive capacity. Wish it was a little lighter than it's 900g though. BUt for the price pretty okay I reckon.

as for the drag, I locked mine down and got 14kg with the scales and a full spool. My understanding is that drag ratings are taken at empty spool so given the difference in leverage between a full and empty spool they are probably about right. Seemed pretty smooth still but I'm no expert.

yea price wise i reckon they are all good and a 1200 bait runner has only got a 12kg drag so guessing thats only 6 when spooled. what rod have you got your 7500 on man?

Get a 5500 mate. Alot lighter and more drag than the 6500(i have both) Use mine for popper fishing and caught big GT's with it. Very happy with mine. For the money you cant get better.

I got 2x 7500's.
One is spooled with 80lb braid and has a JIgstar 350 that I use for jigging and livebaiting.
The other is spooled with 50lb braid and a Finnor 6050 (6 foot; 20-50lb) that came as a combo. Used it for jigging before I had the Jigstar but a bit long, although still caught fish. Has quite a fast action and I quite like it for cheapy but tends to be by backup/loan-to-mates setup now. Fine for livebaiting/trolling as well. Can cast it but a bit short for that really.

I think he might be referring to the 6500b, and not the Finnor 6500.

Only thing with thew bigger fin nor's is if you hold the rod by wrapping a couple of fings around the reel seat area,they are hugely thick on a fin nor and i find its a pain after a few hours if jigging.  other than that,Beauty reels.     I have mine matched up to a 7ft Tuna sniper rod.
If you think you are too small to make a difference,try sleeping with a mosquito in your tent.

I have a fair number of them yip heavy very robust and I will ask why is drag so important, the reason I say this is have your ever tried the 60lb drag etc, I can say I have on a fish well a fair few now and it is dam hard on the body and the gear, set the drag and use your finger on the spool, just saying guys and each to their own etc but when you have a huge drag and something breaks its not the break that hurts you as you hurtle back wards its the sudden stop.
yip have them and bang for your buck you cant go wrong, in fishing bling is not all it is cracked up to be money in the pocket every time.

so right BA, 60lb drag on a fish standing up is toooo bloody hard, i fought a fish for 3hrs in the chair and can tell you it hurts...
thing is you can kill a fish far quicker with a lighter drag as they can swim/run more so they get worn out instead of the angler...

Agree with BA and Lethal, the only time I've had my drag maxed out has been on the driveway LOL
However, would it be reasonable to assume that if you are using reel that you need to crankup closer to it's maximum drag rating that it is more likely to cause problems (such as over-heating) or at least be less smooth? Perhaps that's over-simplifying things?

id never use full drag but nothing wrong with having it there. also was only thinking shaimano bait runner as i would have thought the 1200 would have had more power than what its got so scrap that idea im going to get a finnor 6500 today

I've got a 6500 on a monster mesh. I'm still waiting for something to put it to the test, but seems a nice set to use.
The solution to any problem - work, money, love, whatever - is to go fishing - the worse the problem the longer the fishing trip should be.

i brought a fin6500 after winning a jigging rod (for a blue cod Tongue)
rang up my cousin who had one ... "do you recommend it" ... "yip"
thats all i needed. cheap and solid
i will prob never use the full drag but as long as its smooth around the 8-10kg mark i have no issues
I just read an article about the dangers of drinking too much; it scared the sh*t out of me, so today I decided I'm never f*cking reading again!
