Just wondering what the best way to position the boat when searching for fish, casting stickbaits to kingfish and then the fight.

Do you use the sounder much for topwater? or are you generally just casting towards structure? The easy thing about driving the boat for jigging is that you see the fish on the finder, stop the boat and drop.

For topwater do you see the sign, then drive say 50m passed it then cast back in front of the boat towards the sign?

Then once you are hooked up is it best to have someone driving the boat and try keep some angle on the fish or do you just let the boat end up on top of the fish and fight straight up and down?

hey there marx, when im fishing top water i look still look for the fish on the sounder just to see what depth they are in and to make sure that there are fish in the area,its good to have one of the boys jigging as well just to see if it worth casting stick baits,yesterday the boys where killing it on the jigs and i cast carpenter gamma's all day and got nothing so some days they wont even take the best baits,so make sure that there are fish in the area and give it a go
once hooked up depending on the depth you are in and the size of the fish it is good to have someone on the wheel to help fight the fish, say you hook the fish 40m from the boat and the fish swims under the boat and your in 60m and it pulling out string you need to be on the wheel sharp
you do not want to be fighting fish straight up and down cos of the length of the rods is will put a load of pressure on the angler

Ive been doing a bit lately, i fish reefs and structure for throwing sticks/poppers getting the popper to land close to the rock and swim it past the shelve of the reef, Ky work ups and that i cast the edges not straight down the middle. I like to cast into white water also and get the bites just on the out side of the white water.
when me and mozz did plenty we would blind cast sometimes and get bites, but usually helps where schools are fish are working or there is current/reef etc
thse are my observations

 Don't fish north reef, lots more interesting waters allot closer than that :D
