Hey guys
I was filleting a snapper yesterday and the flesh had a yellow tinge to it. Now this might be normal at some times during the year/ breeding cycle, but I ve never seen it before.
So, if anyone has seen this before or knows what causes it, I would be keen to know.
The snapper was caught around Billy Goat point on Sunday, on ice until yesterday when I filleted it.
I have heard from another fisher that they had some snapper with a yellow tinge caught out around Kawakawa bay a few months ago.

I ate it and tasted fine and Im still here.
Fish was in good/great condition, Ive since had another from the Coro this time with the same tinge. It was fine too.

Yeah thats kinda what I was thinking, just interested on what they were feeding on to do this ( if it is the food). Ive caught the last couple on squid, which seems to be the flavour of choice at the moment for me.
Will check it out again this weekend.

Hi guys , here`s an Aussie idea  It may be stain from roe that has been re-injested by the fish after spawning, that was not released during initial spawning cycle(if female) or "milt that has been absorbed back through  the skin after rough house males have done the deed. Just a thuoght You guys know your Snapper better than I.
