Yamaha launches world first

Yamaha stunned the public and marine industry at the 2007 Miami Boat Show when the company released the world’s first V8 engined four stroke outboard motor.

The F350 is the first production outboard motor utilising a V8 engine and also delivers the world’s highest power output at 350 horsepower, rated at the prop.

With a displacement of 5330cc, the F350 delivers massive power and torque. It also provides outstanding durability and reliability along with an extremely comfortable operating performance. The model also brings a totally new look to Yamaha’s range with a streamlined new design.

Environmentally, the Yamaha F350 gains a 3-star rating under the 2008 emissions standards of the California Air Resource Board (CARB), which are said to be the world’s most stringent.

The new model Yamaha F350 is expected to be available in the US markets during their coming summer season (NZ winter). The production schedule for New Zealand delivery is yet to be announced.

The new model is expected to be a significant boost for the New Zealand boating market, offering a realistic alternative to sterndrive, inboard and multi outboard power units, while retaining the benefits of space, safety and reliability of a modern four stroke outboard motor.

Traditionally, offshore boats of over nine metres have been powered primarily by inboard or inboard-outboard motors. However, over recent years there has been a shift toward outboard motors as the power of choice for larger boats. This is due to the outboard configuration offering excellent speed, performance, fuel economy, light weight, ease of installation and maintenance plus the fact that they allow for more usable onboard space.

The new Yamaha F350 is a new product that has been built to meet these needs by breaking out of conventional categories in order to open up new market demand.
