Greetings fisher folk,

Ok, this is becoming a joke! Ray and I have fished 3 comps and haven’t weighed in a single fish, and its not for want of trying, we even chose a prime spot down the coast last comp, and even the Hiwi Hiwi couldn’t stretch to 30cm, a bit embarrassing when you’re invited friends along for the day, and bragged about what a great spot it is.

Congratulations to those who did catch fish, with some great snapper up to 4kg, caught at local areas. Steve, you’re now at Legend Status, coming in at 2^nd place at present, will it be a battle to the finish between you and Phil?, its getting real exciting now!

Well done Daryl, we all know what a great fisherman you are, with only a few months to go I’m sure you’ll be up with the rest of them before long.

Ladies! what’s happening? Let’s kick off our high heels and get down and get dirty! The fish are not always 160mtrs out to sea, we can do just as good casting 50 or 60 mtrs, snapper are renowned for feeding in the shallows, as well as kahawai, and I’ve seen some good Trevally caught very close to shore, so don’t be disheartened,

DICK OF THE DAY went to me again!, I cast my 3 piece rod out with masculine force, only to be left with the lower half and reel, being blonde I thought “hmm something looks a bit odd?”, then realised what had happened, and sniggering away to myself, and hoping the guys didn’t see, I quickly retrieved the rest, luckily I had a humungous bait on the end of the hook.

“ The tall dark stranger in black undies”- Coming back from a recent fishing trip at Tarawera, we were waved down by a very tall skinny man who had been whitebaiting all day and had a flat car battery, we pulled over and he asked if we could jump start his car.

Now with my lewd sense of humour, I couldn’t help but giggle by the sight of this man wearing only a black T shirt and baggy black underpants, I chortled all the way home.

Club Captains Report

Hello everybody,

Things are heating up in the club, spring is here, and the fish are getting closer.

Well done everybody with our last comp, especially those who actually went fishing and caught fish.

The Cooper family started at the top of our boundary and fished back to Matata and were rewarded with a good catch of fish.

Steve took out heaviest Snapper which was a beauty.

Daryl Cawte fished hard from Hawai to the Port and weighed in the most fish for the competition and heaviest kahawai.

Dick of the day was won by my lovely wife for trying to shorten her 3 piece rod into a one piece, however after the vote was taken and the mug presented there was another whom should have been up for nomination.

Rodney casually asked a question as to what was wrong when he was fishing, as he couldn’t work it out.

Why was it that every time he cast out, the sinker would fly like the wind, and the trace would land somewhere about halfway,

Well I can tell you that you are not the only one in this club and probably in the surfcasting world that hasn’t made the same mistake.

The Sinker slides up the line and the trace goes on the bottom not the other way round, Rodders OK. SEE THE PICTURE BELOW

Pete ( Telly Savalas ) Laursen, how’s the finger, a special club fundraising has been arranged to buy you a stainless steel mitt for your exclusive use when you are anywhere near a knife.

For those that don’t know Pete cut his finger ( 6 stitches to be exact ) filleting a fish and then in true blonde Irish fashion decided to go fishing and do the same again to the same finger.

Well done on your accuracy, almost legendary really.

Please remember to read and mark your calendar for the upcoming events, it is important at this time of the year to plan your weekends, as the days fly by towards Christmas and the holidays.

Of particular importance are the dates for away trips and interclub competitions.

This weekend the postal casting is on Sunday 10^th September at the Kawerau Aerodrome and will start at 10 am, all committee members are to be there at 9 am to set up the court, etc.

Drinks and bbq will there and of course a raffle.

Thanks go to Phil (The Little General ) Brierley for the Plants that are now planted at the Gate and to Jackie’s sister for obtaining them.
