World Record Broadbill 25/4/01

On Tuesday April 24th at 7.15pm onboard the Charter boat "Striker" with skipper Bruce Smith, Bay of Islands Swordfish Club member Murray Hansen of Auckland started what would prove to be more than a five hour fight to land a Broadbill (Swordfish) weighing 332.4kg on 37kg line. The fish was finally onboard at 12.30am the next day. (What a way to spend the evening)

The catch was weighed in Russell on ANZAC Day and has been submitted for a Men’s World Record on 37kg line and also a NZ All Tackle Record previously held by H. White-Wickham of England since 1928.

.

Congratulations to Murray and the crew on Striker
