Winter on the way

June sees the onset of winter, a mixture of the sou'westers cold and showery and the still frosty mornings ideal for fishing for those who can brave the cold. While this is the last month of our fishing year and the trophy boards anyone's for the taking we are not seeing much in the way of fishing. For those who can get out there is not a lot going on. The spinny dog is now comming in close and disrupting the reliable gurnard catch. The kahawai are still running with average weights being arround the 2kg mark. One noteable exception was a fish weight of over 5.6kg caught earlier this month. So the advice is "fish the reef", 44m of depth, moderate berly on the bottom, but be prepared for some good action with the grey sharks and if you stick it out there are still a few blue cod to be taken.
