Why an Extreme 545 Centre Console?

Extreme Boats are the most awarded aluminium boat manufacturers in New Zealand. It has been a family owned and operated business for over 20 years, and a business that’s been driven by both a passion for being on the water and a pride in producing a premium quality product. Extreme now deliver over 300 boats a year through the range of models from 5m to 11m. Extreme’s experience and quality of manufacture is reflected in the 545 Centre Console.

A compact, nimble and very versatile fishing platform, it punches well above its weight. Fishability is excellent and the centre console layout provides heaps of space for four anglers to cast and fish with comfort. It’s a dry hull, thanks to the reverse chines, and the self-flooding keel provides rock-solid stability.

There’s more storage than you’d generally find on boats of a similar size, and with the Honda 90, it’s not going to cost an arm and a leg every time you fill up – a rather important consideration these days with fuel prices going through the roof. All things considered, we couldn’t find a boat we liked more in terms of functionality, quality and value than the Extreme 545 Centre Console. We’ve been following the build of the prize-boat so here’s a sneak preview of the early stages of manufacture...

The aluminium is cut by a computerised router in the factory, ensuring each component is absolutely to specification. After any folding, the various components are welded and this process occurs in stages as the fabrication takes place and the boat takes shape.

As production progresses, each boat moves on a rollered cradle through a series of stations manned by specialised operators who fabricate and oversee the production. It’s then off to the paint-shop for the colour of your choice and back for the final fit-out of all the important bits such as electronics, upholstery, Perspex and other optional extras, before delivery.

The Extreme 545 Centre Console prize boat will be powered by a Honda 90 and matched with a custom GFAB aluminium trailer. It will feature a Lowrance Elite FS, U-Dek flooring and a very cool wrap from Brave Design – more about all those components in the April, May and June issues of NZ Fishing News. All up, this is going to be a magnificent prize for one lucky angler and will be perfect for many adventures around our inshore fishery.
