Wheeler knives

A custom made knife is a special treat or a wonderful gift for a special occasion. Steve Wheeler has been making knives for yonks and is one of New Zealand's great craftsmen producing the highest quality products. Each knife can be individually engraved for you - perhaps the initials of the owner and a date if it is for a gift.

The steel for each knife is created in Sweden by Sandvik, called 12C27, it is their most well-rounded knife steel, giving excellent edge performance allowing razor sharpness, high hardness, exceptional toughness and good corrosion resistance. The bolster for each knife is made of high quality English brass.

Care of your Steve Wheeler Knife

The handles have an oil finish. A mixture of Vegetable Turpentine, Tung & Linseed Oil is continually applied to the finished handle, once there is no more uptake the handles are wiped off and allowed to dry completely.

With use and time some additional oiling will benefit the knife. Any suitable oil can be applied to the handle, but Walnut Oil is Steve's recommendation.

Steve Wheeler custom made knives

Now you have an option to have the best - a knife made to fit your hand, with a blade shaped for what you will use it for, out of a material that you would be proud of. It takes many weeks to create a custom knife as the materials are prepared and crafted to fit your hand. Steve Wheeler works with you during the crafting of the knife to ensure you'll be 100% satisfied with the finished product.

To ensure the knife will fit the owner's hand, Steve will need to know;

Is the owner Right or Left handed?
The distance across the back of the knuckles.
The length of the first finger.
The width at the base of the first finger.
