The Trifecta is back!

The third annual Trifecta Fishing comp is held in Tairua on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September, run by Carl Muir from Provider Charters.

Anglers can win a Stabicraft 1410 Frontier by catching a hapuku, a kingfish and snapper in the annual Trifecta fishing competition.

The last two years were keenly contested by teams and boats travelling from all around New Zealand to fish the comp. This year, organisers say entries have already come in from Australia and tickets will sell out early.

This event is a new format in fishing competitions, with kingfish, snapper and hapuku being the three main targets. Snapper and kingfish are caught on a measure and release basis, using the DB Export NZ Fishing Competition measure mat or any IGFA mat, with a standard 100 points given to any hapuku weighed. Anglers and teams combine the length of their snapper and kingfish, with their ‘puka points, and multiply the points by the number of species they have caught.

This year there will be over $40,000 in prizes. These include a custom, heavyduty mobile filleting bench from Trailer Made, Furuno marine electronics, Hirepool vouchers and tackle prizes from Okuma. There is also a major prize from Stabicraft – a 1410 Frontier centre console fitted with a Yamaha outboard and a DB7 Furuno touch screen. The major Stabicraft boat prize will be drawn from all those anglers who enter all three species.

Tairua band Cosha will be playing at the prizegiving, and Marines Kitchen will be putting on a special buffet meal for all contestants on Thursday night for briefing, and again on Saturday night for prizegiving.
