The PENTAX Optio W30

The PENTAX Optio W30 is the fifth model in the Pentax' waterproof digital camera line. It has an enhanced weather-sealed design and is waterproof up to 3m depths.

The ease of use and fact that the camera can get wet make it an ideal companion on every fishing, hunting or outdoor adventure. The generous 2.5 inch LCD monitor and intuitive layout of the  buttons makes it easy to use even when those fingers are a bit cold and the images are good quality. The camera also features a 7.1 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens (38-114mm) and a digital Shake Reduction mode for both still pictures and video.

The Optio W30 is also equipped with Ultra-fast 9-Point Autofocus and has a great feature called Tracking AF. This technology is particularly effective at preventing “dropout” photos, where the camera focuses on the background and not on the subject. It automatically corrects the exposure so faces are correctly exposed even in difficult back-lighting situations which makes for much better pictures of the catch and angler..

The Pentax Optio W30 is is truly a camera that deserves to be part of any angler’s gear bag. The best fishing photos are taken on location with the sea, river or lake as an appropriate background. No more photos of dead fish in front of the garage at home!

And if you’re about to release a fish then it’s the perfect camera for that. The picture above shows a very respectable trout being released after a torrid battle won by angler Graham Wood at a secret South Island location….. and you guessed it, the picture was taken underwater with a Pentax Optio W30 - nice work Graham, great fish and a great shot!
