Lucky days in so many ways

Like most club fishes I was late to registration, arriving at the car park to find it empty. Ocky and I were both looking at our watches and scratching our heads. Once we moved through to the lagoon car park and found the registration sheet tucked up warm in Pete and Ail’s Ute I headed out on a mad dash for the secrete special spot at Maori bay (which until this day had been quite a secrete to me too!)

I clambered around some likely looking reefs until finally spying a nice possie sitting a wee way out towards the Kawau North Channel. I headed towards it only to find as I neared it that Kevin and Paul had thought it attractive too. I decided to see how it looked any ways, asked to fish it with them and after a few minutes decided to do the honourable thing and leave it to them as they were legitimately there first and crowding a small rock is not cool (Cheers for the offer tho guys).

As I headed further around the peninsula I thought I was doomed to second rate spots as I had given up the jewel in the crown to Kevin and Paul. This was not to be as I found a very Ted Audain looking bouldery bay with some nice reefs in close. It was to be a very good day in the end with six fish around or over 2kg falling to the new Alvey 600 reel I had won at the NSSC prize giving the week before (ps: Thanks Pete Reynolds for donating such an exceptional prize!!).  Thanks to Kevin and Paul for beating me to ‘The Rock’ as I now have a better spot to fight for in the future!!

As a follow up I’d like to especially thank Pete Reynolds again for donating the Alvey rod, the ‘Pete 1’ (this model is available from Bait station on the north shore). I was incredibly lucky to win this rod at the Doubtless Bay inter club fishing comp on June 5th. My partner Eloise (who, since Saturday 4th of June (on the rocks at Taupo bay), is now my Fiancé!) bought me a raffle ticket with exactly the same number as won me the reel at the NSSC prize giving, and this ticket won me the reel. Thanks babe!!

WOW!! Number 49 is VERY VERY lucky for me….if only I can figure out how and why??
