Surfies catch more than just waves!

Waves weren't the only big things caught during tropical cyclone IVY.

Nick Fletcher and Sam Mccaw of Tairua were surfing Hahei during the height of the Tropical Ivy Swell, when they thought they saw a shark fin, so they paddled in to shore (quite quickly one would imagine). Once on the beach they realised that the crwature that disturbed their surfing was not a shark, but looked more like a marlin that was obviously disabled or ill.

'Kiwi ingenuity' kicked-in, and they grabbed a strap off the back of the ute, paddled out, noosed its tail and dragged it into the surf zone and drowned it. Turned out that they had caught a 145KG Broadbill in broad daylight!
