If your boat broke down out on the water, would you pay a small fortune for a tow or attempt the long swim home?
If you have a Coastguard membership you don’t need to do either – for just $115 a year, you’ll get free on-water assistance in all the popular boating areas around the country. Whether your engine won’t start, you’ve run out of fuel, or something a bit more serious, Coastguard’s trained volunteers will be there to help you get up and running, or back to base, free of charge.
Coastguard membership also gets you a range of great benefits like discounts on education courses – new members get $100 off our popular day skipper course, and all members get 15% off a range of other education courses. You also get access to the Coastguard Boating Insurance Policy (including fishing gear cover), along with discounts on marine batteries and broadband for your boat.
In the last year Coastguard brought over 6,000 Kiwi boaties home to safety, from newbies to the saltiest sea dogs. Almost 70% of the calls for help were mechanical or fuel related issues – it can happen to anyone! The numbers speak for themselves: it’s $280 an hour for assistance if you don’t have a Coastguard membership, so $115 a year to get free assistance 24/7 really is a no-brainer.
