Snapper World Cup presented

Matamata’s Zara Clifton finally got her hands on the Furuno Snapper World Cup when it was presented to her at this year’s Hutchwilco NZ Boat show in May.

Zara landed a 12.26kg snapper on day one of the Century Batteries Beach and Boat Contest and then had to sit through the second day to see if she had won the event.

Also at stake was the Furuno Snapper World Cup, contested over three events. Zara’s fish was leading after the Beach and Boat and then she had a few weeks to wait until the Mercury Bay club’s trailerboat event was finalised.

Nothing landed could match Zara’s fish and she ended up with a unique double – the first female angler to win both the Century Batteries Beach and Boat Contest and the Furuno Snapper World Cup honours. - Grant Dixon
