Shimano Abyss rods

The new Shimano Abyss range of seven blue-water-centric rods provide dynamic, lightweight, yet very strong tamers of powerful blue-water species such as kingfish, bass, hapuku, tuna, billfish and the mighty broadbill swordfish.

Shimano NZ, in conjunction with Tony Orton from Offshore Adventures, began thoroughly testing them, but with only minor tweaks required from the first samples, the Shimano Abyss range was born. Literally hundreds of hard-fighting kingfish, hapuku, huge sharks and billfish have been caught using the Shimano Abyss range, which includes: PE8 Jig/live-bait rods (5’3”/1.6m) in overhead and spin configurations; 40-100lb pitch-bait rods (6’4”/1.93m) in overhead and spin; two straight-butt, stand-up game rods (5’2”/1.57m) in 15-24kg and 24-37kg; and a 5’6”/1.68m bent-butt (detachable) stand-up game rod rated for 60-100lb lines.
