The Seahorse dropper rig is designed for fishing tough west coast conditions and anywhere sharks are likely to be encountered.
Simple to use and reliable, the rig lets you set your hooks and baits on a line that’s separate to the mainline running from the kontiki back to the winch. This gives extra security, as baits are away from the retrieval line.
The rig consists of a separate line involving a carabiner, a 10m break-away, 100m of leader, and an 80m stoppered section. The rig is stored on a light portable hand reel and stand. The dropper line is attached to the back of the kontiki in the same way as the mainline, and the fisher can then clip the traces on the stoppered line as the kontiki pulls both lines out to sea.
Available from stockists nationwide. Visit www.seahorse.net.nz or phone 07 543 0266.
