Faced with the threat of a fast-spreading omicron COVID variant, hosts of the 2022 Reel Legends Fishing Competition have cancelled the event for this year.
Event manager Jodi Wilson says the decision was based on the recent Government call to put the whole of New Zealand into the Red Traffic Light setting and the restrictions that were placed on larger gatherings and events.
“With the threat of this variant to our communities and whanau, we feel the most sensible approach would be to reschedule the Century Batteries Reel Legends Fishing Competition to 17-19 February 2023,” Jodi says.
“We have begun the process of contacting our sponsors to confirm support for the rescheduled 2023 event, along with our current ticket holders to whom we will offer a refund or rescheduling option.”
“Those unable to reschedule will be refunded directly by Reel Legends Promotions Limited and we will then resume ticket sales, marketing, and such for the 2023 dates.”
Jodi says they have had an extremely positive response to date with ticket sales considering the rollercoaster ride that 2021 presented and know they can achieve a sell-out event in 2023.
“We are deeply disappointed we cannot achieve this in 2022 but watch out 2023, we are ready for you! Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to email any queries through to us.
“We wish you all well over the coming months and look forward to seeing you at the 2023 event.”
