1308 anglers fishing from 370 Teams and 39 Clubs took part in the recent New Zealand Big Game Fishing Nationals competition. The tournament is run over a week in February.

The Heaviest Snapper went to Rhys Dewhurst from Warkworth Gamefish Club Inc – 10.80 kgs – this will put Rhys into contention for the Snapper World Cup if it remains the biggest, congratulations Rhys.
The John Hough Memorial Trophy won by John Bayley, Ian Kohler, Derek Presland, Paul Eyers and Miranda Penistan who, fishing on Libertas, collectively tagged and released 15 striped marlin over the eight days of fishing.
Heaviest striped marlin was caught by Grant Scott from the counties Sports Fishing club weighing 153.20kg.
Guy Jacobsen caaught a 105kg striped marlin on 6kg.
The heaviest billfish was a blue marlin caught by Ian Cameron from Waihau Bay weighing 323.20kg.
The Carol Atwood Memorial Trophy has been awarded to Wayne Bicknell from the Hawkes Bay Club with a yellowfin tuna weighing 66.75kg caught on 15kg line.
