Gamefishers have been using zip-ties for years to secure hooks to livebaits. It has always involved using a separate bridle needle, or creating some sort of point on the zip-tie to secure through the fish. That issue has been resolved with the development of the Live Bait Max, a zip-tie that incorporates its own needle. Once the pointed end has been passed through the fish, it is cut off and the tie used conventionally. It has its own system of securing the hook firmly in position. The system was developed in Hawaii and is available in two sizes – the larger one for bigger baits such as skipjack tuna and kahawai and a smaller version for jack mackerel and koheru. Live Bait Max is exclusive to Hunting and Fishing’s North Shore and Westgate stores.
