MoF announce changes

Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) recently announced to staff changes to its organisation design.

MFish Chief Executive Wayne McNee announced significant changes ahead for the Ministry. “These changes will help us better deliver the government’s priorities and expectations” Mr McNee said.

“The changes to the way the Ministry is structured and operates are significant, the biggest change being around the way we undertake our fisheries management role. This does have implications for the number and locations of fisheries management positions. This will impact the number of fisheries management roles in Dunedin, Nelson, Wellington, Napier and Auckland.”

The number of fishery surveillance positions will increase following Budget announcements and the number of investigator roles and their locations will not change.

There will be 462.5 Full-time employees (FTEs) employed by the Ministry under the new structure. At 31 March 2009 the Ministry employed 446 permanent and fixed term FTEs.

“Some existing roles are disestablished and new roles are established,” Wayne McNee said. “While this has implications for some existing staff, there will also be opportunities in the new structure.

“I look forward to implementing these changes so we can get on and better address the exciting challenges and opportunities ahead for New Zealand fisheries and their important place in our economic future,” Mr McNee concluded.
