Mercury innovation on display

Innovation across many facets of marine propulsion has been Mercury Marine’s hallmark this year, releasing a variety of new product onto the market.

First came the Mercury FourStroke V6’s, released at the Miami Boat Show in February followed by the V8’s later in the year. Then last month, the new 3.0 litre diesel options were revealed at the Sydney Boat show.

The outboards were new builds from the skegs up, testament to the parent company’s commitment to research and development over a period when many companies were pulling back.

Noise reduction, better torque, greater economy out of a lighter unit are all hallmarks of the new outboards which have won praise from marine journalists and commentators world-wide.

The new line of 3.0-litre diesel engines for sterndrive, inboard and water-jet applications – available in 150hp, 230hp and 270hp – will be in Auckland. Engineered, developed and tested over the past three years, these new engines will lead their class in several key attributes: acceleration; reliability; ease of installation and maintenance; and mitigation of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).
