The 2001 Ladies Tournament was the most successful in recent years, mostly due to the weather being kind and allowing 2 days fishing. This year saw over 200 lady anglers take to sea on 58 boats with skippers and deckies (slaves for the weekend) to fish the tournament

The winning fish in each category are displayed above. Congratulations to the girls on Absolut who had a quintuple strike of yellowfin tuna and landed 4 (23.60kg, 29.30kg, 30.00kg & 35.10kg) one of which turned out to be the winning fish. Also special mention to Alicia Dick and Louise Wilson, both fishing on Infinity who landed a double strike of yellowfin tuna (21.20kg & 23.40kg) -both on 10kg line -well done girls a great effort.

The fancy dress boat parades pass the Whitianga wharf was again a great spectacle with hundreds of people turning out on the wharf to view the fun. The theme this year was cartoon with the team on MV McGint taking out both costume and boat prizes with 101 dalmations.

Special thanks to all the sponsors, especially Elizabeth Arden, who provided numerous prizes and gifts for the starter packs. Many boats have already re-registered for next years tournament that is sure to be bigger and better after the weekend of fun had by all this year.
