Labour Weekend Fishing Fun

The tallies for the weekend were not large because of the weather which was slightly worse on the second days fishing, and towards the end of the first days fishing boat teams were more worried about the bush fire raging through Marble Bay towards several houses. Two tope of good size were caught, along with 8 snapper and 5 terakihi. The snapper were caught in a variety of locations which included the Cavalli Islands, Cone Rock, Taheke and Ruahine Reefs, with Bill’s winning fish caught on a soft bait in the Cavallis from the boat ‘Big Red’. We certainly are seeing the snapper being weighed in which have been caught on soft baits. The terakihi were mainly being caught off Berghan’s Point. Not many of the prizes were won, but some were given away as lucky draws and the winners in brief were: ADULT SECTION: Snapper; 1st – Bill Irvine 7.46kg, 2nd – Ron Wilson 4.34kg, 3rd – Paul Tidswell 3.26kg. Terakihi; 1st – Chris Mowat 1.16kg, 2nd - Wayne Harris 1.12kg, 3rd - Chris Mowat 1.1kg. JUNIOR SECTION: Snapper; 1st – Vincent Rutledge 4.68kg. The club wishes to thank the local coastguard radio operator John Wright for his time and his watch over our teams of anglers. The club’s next competition is the Redwood’s Dental Contest, sponsored by Redwoods Dental Care in Kerikeri. This starts on 26th November and runs until the first qualifying marlin is weighed in by a participating club member. The winner can claim a jackpot prize which includes a monetary donation from Redwoods Dental Care.
