King-Size Groin Ache!!!
Not that its exceptionally important or anything, but just wondering if any of you lads amongst us have endured the mighty wrath of a lip-hooked Kingfish while carelessly holding the butt of your rod precariously between your legs as you strike at it in full flight???
No??? Good answer!!!
Take it from me, lads…its NOT a “good look”…not when you have 16+ kilos of mature, hooked Kingfish streaking away from you at breakneck speed at the very instant you heave back on your Composite Developments Land Based Light Game Rod in order to set the hook…FORGETTING to loosen the drag to cushion the impact of the hook-up!!!
One instant I was a wildly excited land-based Kingfish hunter…next instant I was in the short-list for the Vienna Boys Choir…SUCH WERE THE EFFECTS OF HAVING THE ROD BUTT SLAM UPWARDS INTO MY “NEVER YOU MIND” WITH ALL THE FORCE OF AN UPROOTED TREE!!!
On reflection, I can also confidently say that the sight of my two young sons (Sam and Luke) laughing almost hysterically at my 'excrutiating plight', to the extent that they lost their balance and fell backwards into a nearby, waist-deep rock pool, did absolutely nothing for me whatsoever!!!
Groin injuries aside though, the Papa Aroha fishing trip was great fun as usual. Well done Sue for your rare landing of a Silver drummer! Oh, and Pete…mate!…cobber!…buddy!…pal of mine!!!…thank you so much for producing the BEST smoked Kingfish this world has ever seen…or in my case, “eaten”.
