Gone Fishin Series Preview

Welcome to series ten of Exide Gone Fishin. Yep! Ten years have elapsed since we first went to air, I can’t believe it!

The refreshing thing is that we are nowhere near the point where new material gets a bit thin in fact we have enough for a great many more series.

TV3 have confirmed Gone Fishin again for next year and the sponsor team also remains very supportive.

Health wise I am positively dangerous although my legs still don’t obey orders. There is a great deal of encouraging research in to multiple sclerosis and if the research is able to continue you can expect some serious breakthroughs in the next few years. The name of the game is to have a good laugh and make the most of every day. Making the most translates as going fishing as often as you can.

The new series commences on Saturday April 6^th and the Monday repeats begin a couple of weeks later.

First up we jig for trout with a couple of guys who have worked it all out. They know every inch of Lake Taupo and have experimented to a point where their techniques are lethal. I was thoroughly impressed because the system is so easily learnt and can be applied to many of the deeper lakes around the country.

I know that some of you are not too keen on trout but if you try this system and hook a few, who knows, you may start to enjoy yourself. If you happen to be surrounded by breathtaking scenery and in good company then the fish should be regarded as a bonus anyway.

The second episode focuses on a little offshore sojourn to North Queensland and the Daintree River.

It is always of interest to watch how our Aussie cousins do things because at times their techniques can apply to our own situations. The impressive thing about our day on the Daintree was the size and variety of fish. There is not room in a single show to highlight all of the species landed but there is room to show you what an exceptional fishery the Aussies have flowing through their northern rain forest.

Episodes three and four take place on the charter vessel Primetime. John Gregory and Primetime are making quite a name for themselves and deck hand Matt Watson is now a regular contributor to Fishing News. These guys are having all sorts of adventures and recently cleaned up the nationals. John was a commercial

fisherman for many years and brings some serious skills to big game fishing. His knowledge, however is not restricted to game fish and he found huge hapuku and snapper for us. The Primetime shows start with an all night hunt for broadbill and makos.  Fishing on Primetime may not be in everyone’s budget but as a learning experience a trip is in a class of its own. This is the sort of trip you dream about. It also took place in the middle of last winter.

We have filmed a good chunk of this series and some of it is absolutely spectacular. Thanks for your ongoing support.
