Fishing News Oct Issue

There is no doubt one of the most exciting news is the development of the bluefin tuna fishery off the West Coast.

In this issue we cover two different perspectives. One from Matt Watson who tackled his first bluefin from the charter vessel Cascade, the other by Steve White who took his 8.5m alloy trailerboat Tinsanity all the way from the Kaipara to the tuna fishery off Westport.
Both stories are in their own right adventure tales and make for a good read.

Earlier this year Sam Mossman went to the American tackle show ICAST (International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades) where he checked out the latest in tackle, some of which is already available in New Zealand.

Big boat trips feature prominently. Editor grant Dixon joined The ITM Fishing Show crew aboard Dave Arrell’s charter boat Double strike to check out the winter action in the Far North and found plenty to write about.

Mark Kitteridge returned to his old Wellington haunts to catch up with Pete Lamb and his new charter operation aboard Daniel. They crossed the straits for some good fishing at the top of the south.

The smaller trailerboat and kayak fishers have not been forgotten. Stephen Tapp talks about the new electric motor technology that takes the paddling out of kayaking. Whether you can still call it ‘kayaking’ is up for the individual to debate! Ian Wills checks out his second small boat setup, this time a 4.5metre Ramco.

In the ranks of the ‘thinking’ anglers out there is Craig Worthington. In this issue he takes a look at barnacle berley, where to get it and how it should be deployed.

On the freshwater front Peter Langlands offers 16 tips to improve your new season nymphing while Adrian Bell gets a little philosophical in his ‘Passing on the Mantle’ article.
And to top it all off we have on the front cover a DVD which while essentially being an advertising tool for Bombardier Recreational Products and their innovative E-Tec outboards, it contains around 30 minutes of some of the best footage produced by the ITM Fishing Show team, including some fantastic underwater action.
