Fishing News August Issue

This is the first issue of the ‘new’ look magazine that has a slightly smaller and user-friendlier size, compensated with greater pagination.

A highlight is the introduction of several new contributors. Roddy Hays, for those familiar with the international gamefishing scene, needs little introduction. The man behind Legend lures and tackle, Roddy is a skipper of some note having fished all the world’s billfish hotspots. His writing style is akin to that of Bill Hall, a popular contributor to the magazine in the past.

Dinghy and small trailer boat fishers will appreciate the efforts of another new contributor Ian Wills. Ian has spent a lifetime fishing from small craft and he commences the first of a series, which delves into the ways these sized fishing machines can be set up. This month he looks at a small Stabi-Craft that also doubles as a duckshooting ‘gunboat’.

Circle hooks have been around for some time and it is typical of Mark Kitteridge’s approach to all things angling that he has spent considerable time developing techniques to successfully fish this style of hooks. He shares his ideas in this month’s feature article, particularly in relation to targeting snapper.

For the land based angler Andrew Randall looks at the tips and tricks to catching winter livebaits while avid beach fisher Bruce Basher takes into account the effects time and tide has on his surfcasting results.

Snapper is a strong theme in this issue. Craig Worthington found himself facing a snapper off the bricks trip where his normal bait supply was not available. He was surprised at just what snapper will eat.
