Surfcasting Competition

Great competition on a windless day with 1st prize of $1000.00 going to Karen Bennenbrook for a 19.82 Ray.  A lot of hard work was put in to get that onto the beach.  There were 194 entries and over 50 fish caught for the day.

All that participated had an enjoyable day,  and it was great to see a lot of new sponsors as well as the old ones.

Boat Competition

This was our biggest boat competition yet with 86 boats entered giving us 270 anglers registered and a lot of fish weighed in. This included a Kingfish of 12.24kg caught by Alan Gunn which gave him a club pin and From the competiton $500 Cash and a $600 voucher from the Bulls Taxidermist.

We also had a challenge going on between father and son for the heaviest shark.  The son caught his 31.0 kg shark first which started off out at sea being 7 ft long, by the time it got to the club rooms it was 7metres long.  The father caught his 31.0 kg shark second but was a little faster and weighed his fish in 10mins before his son giving him the first prize for shark.

We have 9 categories in the competition with there being 10 prizes in each. The following are the winners in each.

Snapper       5.14 kg      Garry Weld

Shark          31.00kg      Lyndsay Brown

Kahawai       3.18kg      Mark Feildsend

Terakihi         .92kg        Ray Foster

Gurnard       1.24kg      Ray Foster

Blue Cod     2.20kg      T. McLean

Barracuda   3.00kg       Neville Batt

Kingfish       12.24kg    Alan Gunn

Also thanks to the Coastguard who stayed around checking on everyone and ended up towing in 3 boats who had trouble with there motors.  Some of reckon he should have left one out there a bit longer as he had the heaviest snapper on board.

Again we had a great day and a fantastic job was done by the organisers,  the helpers who took the friday off to get things ready, the bar staff and everyone else who pitched in to make it a great competition.

Hope to see a few more new faces next year.
