Recent research provides evidence that fatty acids in fish
help cure depression. The effect is
believed to be due to eicospentaenoic acid(EPA) and there are plans to market
the substance as a drug.
EPA
is believed to supply fat to an area of the brain that the body cannot
manufacture for itself.
Current trials on drugs based on EPA are promising with
researchers claiming the drug has a much greater and faster impact than standard
antidepressants.
The
discovery of the effects of EPA is also being attributed to the low suicide
rates in nations that consume large quantities of seafood such as
