Catch Recorders Corner

In the September newsletter, I used Grant Riddle as an example of a club member catching a good fish before having become refinancial.  In fact he had paid his subs and it was a computer error that made it appear on the computer print out as a non members fish.  I would like to apologise to Grant for any embarrassment caused.

Three tournaments have taken place since the last newsletter.  Firstly on September 30th, the Fish N Golf contest was held.  Contratulations to Rod Johnson for catching the heaviest snapper, Neil Mitchell for catching the heaviest kahawai had Kyler Laker for catching the snapper closest to the average weight (0. kg).  The next day was Kids Wharf Fishing and after a slow start quite a few fish were caught, including spotties, sprats, mackerel and John Dory.

On Sunday October 22nd a snapper tournament was held which was won by day member Nathan Wilson fishing on ' Grey Ghost' with a 12kg fish caught on 10kg tackle.  This snapper is a new club record on that line weight.  It has also caused a bit of confusion that needs clearing up.  When an angler (or skipper) fills out a catch card and states a certain line weight has been used that is deemed to be the line weight until tested to be otherwise.  If a line over tests, the catch card is altered to the correct line weight.  If it under tests, as old or weakened line easily could, the stated line weight holds.  Nathan' s line tested 6kg (or less) and in our One Base Tournament, Grant Blair' s World Record 9.045kg snapper caught on 2kg had the line testing at less than 1kg.

Second place went to Kevin Shaw with a 7.4kg snapper with Ricky Goodlet just beating his Dad Rod into third place with a 6.955kg fish.

 The ladies did well too with Leanne Shaw taking first place with a 5.825kg snapper.  Rose Hutchby and Catherine Mayall were second and third. 

The junior section was won by Jonathan Semmens with a 2.23kg snapper.  Second was his brother Cameron.  The average weight section was won by

The next day Darcy Stannard fishing on 'Southern Raider' caught a 2.63kg trevally on 2kg tackle.  This is a pinfish and it breaks his club record set a couple of months ago.
