Kiwis are an inventive lot, and this is no more evident in Phil Brown’s Blackbow sabiki rig.
Sick of having his sabikis tangling while dealing with a string of jack mackerel live baits, Kiwi fisherman Phil Brown has developed a product that replaces the mono backbone with a light, flexible carbon fibre rod.
The Blackbow system works by spacing bait flies at intervals along the backbone so they cannot tangle with each other, even when loaded with fish. The main line attaches to the top of the backbone and the sinker, or even a berley dispenser, to the bottom to create a tanglefree system that can easily be handled by the angler alone.
The Blackbow product comes with a variety of bait fly sizes and colours which, because they attach individually to the backbone, can be mixed and matched. Broken hooks and traces can be replaced with new ones at the snap of the clip. Storage is normally another issue with sabiki rigs, but this is not the case with Blackbow sabikis which come in their own plastic travel tube.
Check out the Blackbow product on www.blackbow.co.nz or come and talk to Phil who is at stand 103 in The Rock tackle court.
