The plan known as the ‘adopt a Billfish program’ a involves a miniature tracking device that is implanted into a fish when it is tagged and released. The device then transmits data every 10 minutes via a satellite link and will allow the sponsor to follow where the fish is, and what depth. After 30 Days the device breaks free and returns to the surface where it transmits all the additional data it has obtained. The CSF believes this will supply vital information about billfish so that more accurate quota restrictions can be used.
