30lb Snapper from the rocks!!!
If EVER a fishing story is worth telling, its when that story is about a 30lb Snapper being landed on the rocks...especially when that story is NOT a story, but a true event!
On Saturday, April 20th, 2002, 'somewhere' on a rock ledge on Great Barrier Island, Trevor Savory (long-time member of NSSC) in the company of his son (Mark) and life-long fishing companion (Trevor Davidson), hooked, played and landed only the SECOND biggest Snapper of his life - a 'monster moocher' weighing in at 13.66kg!
Trev reckons he thought it was another stingray for the first few minutes of the fight. But whatever he thought, one thing was for sure, it was PURE SNAPPER when it came alongside the gaff. Goodonya Trev! Oh, and 'goodonya Mark' for carrying it all the way back to the car for Dad!
For the record, Trev's BIGGER Snapper than this one tipped the scales at a modest 14.19kg!
