Extreme Aluminium Trailers Review

Extreme Boats has long been recognised for its award-winning aluminium vessels, and is now expanding into high-quality aluminium trailers designed to improve the overall experience of getting to and from the water. Purpose-built to match a range of Extreme hulls, these trailers round out a complete package for customers. It’s little wonder alloy trailers are becoming increasingly common beneath trailerboats nationwide – aluminium is lighter and more resistant to corrosion than galvanised steel, making it a logical choice when transporting a valued boat with longevity and reliability in mind.

On that basis, we chose the Extreme tandem-axle, unbraked aluminium model for NZ Fishing News’ Proline Alloy 1860 HT ‘little’ work boat. Tailored specifically to the hull and equipped with generous supporting rollers, it tows beautifully, with excellent balance and no noticeable sway or rattling – even over gravel and uneven terrain. While a tandem-axle setup might seem excessive for a modest 5.7m vessel, it proves its worth for a boat that regularly travels to a variety of locations around the country. The only slight downside is that manoeuvring in tight spaces can be a bit more challenging.

High-quality componentry includes Immi BoatBuckle stainless steel retractable tie-downs attached at the rear of the trailer.

At the ramp or on the beach, the trailer performs exceptionally well, guiding the boat on straight and true. A wide, practical walk board makes it easy to step down and attach the winch rope hook without slipping or getting wet, while the solid, generously-sized wheel arch provides secure footing for loading and unloading gear. At the rear, Immi BoatBuckle stainless steel retractable tie-downs simplify securing the boat and eliminate the risk of straps going missing in the rush to get on the water. Beyond this, all other third-party components – wheels, coupling, jockey wheel, and more – have been carefully selected by the Extreme team, drawing on years of experience with what works best.
