Boat Dek Premium EVA Foam Review

When NZ Fishing News spec’d out our Proline Alloy 1860 HT work boat, the goal was simple: build a tough, practical platform capable of handling everything from product testing and photography missions to long days chasing fish in challenging conditions. Flooring was a key decision, and the team settled on Boat Dek’s Premium EVA Foam in the Storm Grey over Black colour scheme.

The Boat Dek crew was great to deal with, with logo incorporation and custom design providing no drama at all. Their online, interactive colour selector helped us visualise the different options and make the right choice, too.

The first thing you notice when out on the briny is comfort. Compared with bare alloy decks, EVA foam dramatically reduces fatigue underfoot. Long days standing at the helm, working rods, or shifting gear around are noticeably easier on hooves, knees, and backs. On a working boat that spends full days on the water, that comfort factor really adds up.

Grip is another major advantage. Whether the deck is wet from spray, covered in fish slime, or splattered with grease from a bucket of KFC, the Boat Dek surface maintains excellent traction.

Durability thus far has also impressed. Work boats take abuse – chilly bins sliding around, dive gear thumping down, and sharp fishing gear (and fish) dragged across decks. So far, the Boat Dek has handled it all well, showing minimal wear while still looking brand spanking new after months of use. Cleaning is straightforward too, with most grime simply washing away with a hose-down at the end of the day. Its non-porous surface resists stains, mould, and mildew.

The Storm Grey over Black colour choice has proven both practical and stylish. It looks sharp without being flashy, suiting the Proline’s purposeful Nyalic-coated silver appearance.

Noise reduction is another unexpected bonus. Dropped gear and foot traffic are noticeably quieter, which is appreciated when sneaking up on fish in shallow water or simply reducing onboard clatter during filming sessions.

Overall, Boat Dek Premium EVA Foam has been an excellent addition to the NZ Fishing News Proline Alloy 1860 HT. It improves comfort, safety, and aesthetics while standing up to the real-world punishment of a hard-working fishing platform.
