The OJ has a slower gear ratio of 5:1 compared to 6:1 in the Trini.

The OJ also has the spool lock feature which the Trini doesn't.

Other than that they are the same internally I would think.

I loved my OJ2000PNR, only thing to improve it is a slightly longer arm on it.

They have about 10kg drag which I found fine.

The gold trinidad has dartanium (graphite) drag washers whilst the new one has carbon fibre drags. The gold trini had a single silent anti-reverse dog, the new one has 2 x silent dogs, a larger ARB plus a waterproof seal on the ARB (anti-reverse being a major failure point on the older toriums / trinidads.)

Another difference I believe is the star drag wheel on the new OJ works in the reverse direction.... ie  push it forward to back the drag off... supposed to make it quicker to back the drag off in a hurry with the thumb.

I must have a backward reel then, my 2000 is exactly the same as my 4000 and 5000.
Push star drag forward tightens the drag on all mine

As far as I'm aware that feature is only for the 3000 Japanese model. the new 1000,1500 and 2000 are still the same.

OK I stand corrected then the "reverse tuned drag" must just be on the 3000...... I'd assumed it was all the reels with the new shaped star  with the bend in the ends.

Then someone on another forum pointed out  that all the left hand reels have always been in that reversed  configuration ie 1501, 2001 etc.

Here's what Toto says about it on Japanese Anglers Secrets:

"Shimano is releasing Ocea Jigger Limited in 2014. The key feature is the reverse drag. It loosens when you turn it forward and tightens when you turn it backward. In slow pitch game, we set the drag as tight as possible and when we can't stop we set it free to let the fish swim to prevent the line from friction on the bottom edge. Shimano figured you can loosen the drag faster when you turn it forward. Apparently Shimano is finally changing it's direction more towards slow pitch jigging. This is their test marketing for future models . "

The new way makes more sense, you can't bump the reel into baitrunner because it is sitting flush against the reel instead of sticking out. I prefer it anyway.
