I'm intending on doing some light tackle record chasing with my kids this year - 7 & 9 on 3,4 & 6kg line. I need to look at some additional reels for this and was after some advice. Target species are Trevally and Kahawai followed by Albies and Skippies come summer.
Features which I consider to be important are, in order:
Lever Drag to apply a known amount of pressure
Smooth Drag
Level Wind so they don't end up witht usual hump.
Smallish and light so they can handle them ( they've inherited my overbearing stature!)
Robust so they can take a few bangs and drops.
Given this I've pretty much settled on the Shimano Charter Specials with at least 1 of each size. Is this realistic for what I intend to do or am I better to flag the level wind of look at an altogether different reel.
Cheers

hey ay da
would recommend the charter special tr1000ld as the reel , as kezza says they are pretty tough and robust and very reliable. there are not many quality options of lever drag levelwind around

Thanks for all the feedback -
Imortal - The speedy's are nice but out of my price range. I also think they may to geared to highly for the kids.
Kerren - Thanks for the offer and I may well take you up on it. I'll catch up for a beer and talk through my plan. I wouldn't mind some advice on record claims etc. As for the TLD5, I'd be too scared to let one of the monsters at it!
SB - I though I'd get a couple of spare paull(sp?) as these can go after a decent fight. They're also pretty quick to change.
I just need to sort out some wind-ons and it's all go.

It's hard to go wrong with charter specials especially if you need that levelwind. Personally I think the quicker kids, or any game angler really, learn to levelwind the better, kinda like the quicker you can get them to take the training wheels off a bike the better, but that's just me. You're going to have an absolute ton of fun on skipjack with 6 kg line.
