Many of the trout streams and lakes are closed pending new season starts in October or December, but the salt water addicts don’t have quite the same excuses not to get out there. John Eichelsheim’s lead feature this issue is on fishing soft baits over the cold winter months. While the fish might have slowed down a little, soft bait are still a good option to complement the angler’s armoury. Noted big snapper skipper Damian Clayton looks at fishing after dark and livebait tactics while reader Aaron Houghton’s piece on a summer trip to the Far North land-based fishing will whet the appetites of many for the warmer weather to come. Staying with the land based theme, Craig Worthington looks at guided fishing from the guide’s perspective.
