Rocna begins stainless steel anchor production in China08 June 2009
Rocna’s range of stainless steel ‘new generation’ anchors, featuring leading-edge anchor design and the ultimate in anchoring security, is now in full-scale production in China. The New Zealand-developed Rocna marine anchor was released in early 2005 and represents the very latest in anchor design, providing instant setting and superior holding on most seabed types. It is available in galvanised steel and stainless steel versions from 4kg (9lb) to 275kg (606lb), suitable for any vessel up to the size of a small ship. Until recently, stainless steel anchors were manufactured in New Zealand alongside galvanised steel models, but changing economic circumstances have dictated that the New Zealand-based company shift its stainless steel manufacturing to China. Galvanised anchors continue to be manufactured in New Zealand. Rocna CEO Steve Bambury is confident the move is good for the company and its customers: “Our Chinese factory manufactures Rocna Anchors to ISO 9001 standard and maintains the strictest quality control. Our anchors are also certified by RINA [Registro Italiano Navale], a market leader in certification and assessment of conformity around the world.” By manufacturing in China, Rocna can offer its stainless steel anchors at more competitive prices – making them attractive to a larger cross-section of boat owners – and in larger numbers, to keep pace with rising demand. “Before, we were struggling to meet demand for our stainless anchors, but we are now much better positioned to supply markets all around the world. Our stainless anchors have become price competitive and the quality of manufacturing is, if anything, even better than it was before,” Bambury said. Rocna Anchors has recently extended its distribution network to include outlets in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas, Australia and Oceania. Demand for the company’s stainless steel and galvanised steel anchors continues to grow.
