Fishing with Kids in NZ

Being a parent who absolutely loves fishing, I always dreamt of the day my kids would be out there beside me, rod in hand, just as hooked on it as I’ve been my whole life. I imagined them loving the thrill of the line peeling off, or seeing that spark in their eyes when they’d caught their first fish.

But… it hasn’t quite gone that way. It’s been a hard launch. Not linear at all. Like any seasoned angler, I’ve had to adapt the strategy. Getting kids into fishing isn’t as simple as handing them a rod and saying, “Give it a go.” It’s more like targeting an old snapper – you’ve got to think about conditions, timing, patience, and what’s going to get the bite.
