Diving & Hunting the Southwest Coast

New Zealand is blessed with its fair share of staggeringly beautiful locations, but there are some that I feel are unfairly overlooked when it comes to picking our top spots. This may be due to a number of factors; inaccessibility, unreliable weather patterns, or, in some cases, locals remaining tight-lipped about their hidden slice of paradise.

One local who hasn’t been shy about wanting to shine a light on his own ‘honey hole’ is Dwane Herbert. As a resident of Bluff, Dwane’s been banging on to me over the past few years about wanting to film an episode of our TV show, South Seas Spearo, in one of his favourite haunts, the rugged southwest coast, which stretches between Sandhill Point and Puysegur Point. However, for the past few years, we’ve continually been drawn to its more celebrated neighbour further north, Fiordland.
