Some awesome looking prizes there Kane , Mark put us onto one of those victory fillet knives last time I was in , bang for buck one of the better knives I have owned. A mate that gave us a hand to wack a few fillets off the other day confirmed this and he use to fillet fish for a job.

Just trying to sort out a double booking and logistics of travelling back and forawrd to Tauranga twice ,
otherwise could be a starter. Are there any prizes for catching the biggest trevally whilst doing a hull inspection with your pants falling downLOL

All the best for the comp , looks like the weather may be settling a bit.

Hey man, thanks for the comments, yes i totally agree re. the victory knifes. There is a reason they are the most popular commercial knife!
My pick is the 505 for fillets, skinning and smashing rib cages.
Re. biggest Trevally, If I was you I'd check the hull before putting the boat in the water, fishing naked always helps the catching and yes if it is biggest it will get a prizeTongueSmileTongue

This year anglers must have a IGFA or similar measuring board. The main thing we want on them is the L shaped piece on the end to push the nose of the fish up to.
I can say the Fishing.net and Top Catch boards are fine to use.
If you are planning on using a board other than these two then I will need to check it before the comp starts.
I would to thank Grant from Fishing.net for supplying his boards.
You can get the board which you will use for the Decoro Masters and an entry into the Fishing.net comp from Decoro, Canoe & Kayak and The Tga Sports Fishing Club for $20. These are normally valued at $35.

King Fish

None caught for Saturday.

Saturdays weather started off being extremely wet for anglers who fished out of Tauranga and Coromandel, abating as the morning went on, but fishing was not that easy for anyone.

Sunday 9th February results.

Snapper

1st:   Justin Dufty 710mm long caught from a Kayak

2nd: Bran Auld 638mm long caught from a Kayak

3rd equal:  Bran Auld and Justin Dufty with 612mm long snappers caught from Kayaks

John Dory

1st:  Rob Swan 418mm long from a boat

2nd and 3rd not caught

Trevally

King Fish

None entered, although well done to Peter Bevington fishing out of a kayak who did catch a 900mm plus Kingie but missed the cut off!

Four children were entered in the weekends competition with Riley Scherer 5yrs and Hamish Craven 12yrs both catching 510mm kahawai

Funniest Photo was submitted by Rob Swan of a smiling Pufferfish.

The Longest Snapper overall for both days that was caught from a Kayak was reeled in by Justin Dufty measuring 710mm long.  He chose to take the Kayak as his prize.

The Longest Snapper overall for both days that was caught from a Boat was reeled in by Mike Tolley measuring 610mm long and he walked away with a Bradley Electric Smoker.

The team competition was fought out by 9 teams and the successful team was Softbait Solutions, last years winners, with a combined length of 1753 for 3 species, closely followed by 2nd place Team Cowboy with a combined length of 1567 and 3rd Team Southern Cross with 1472.

Sundays weather was a hot sticky day for all fishers but it didn’t help with making the fishing any easier.  Lots of reports of rat kingis chasing lures, sharks, dropped catches and generally it was hard going.  With 60 anglers entered everyone received prizes and some very happy winners taking home some awesome prizes including an Accurate reel, Synit, Kilwell, Jig star Rods, Decoro chilly bins, abu reels,  softbaits, stickbaits, UFO smoke generator just to name a few.

The Synit was not on the photo, I think the 1 you saw was the major craft bottom fish rod but yea the Synit has fantastic action, responsive and smooth. You can actually feel the jig, I'll take a photo with it on my next catch.
