The game-fishing season is just around the corner so time to start polishing the gear and getting the boat in top condition. This thread is for posts on what's happening in your local area. Someone's gotta kick this off... We picked up a nice (14.2 kg) albacore off Castle on Tues 9th Oct. And dropped another good one at the boat. Both fish took a cedar plug. Were fishing in 70m, water temp was 15.3 deg. Hard work on a snapper rod (Daiwa SL175 and Seaboy rod, 25lb mono) |

| 2 albies were hooked 65 meter south of Ohinau, 1 was dropped at the boat. Water temp was around 19. Cant wait to get out next weekend if the weather sorts itself out. |

| First day out of cooks yesteday. Headed south, best temp (20.5 degrees) we had was east of aldys @ 250-350m. Water itself didnt actually look that great i thought. Give it another nudge in a few days. |

Also headed head for our first look on the 1st. After a quick jig on the aldy pins we set some gear and zig zagged 250m 350m heading south. Temp ranging 19.8 20.3 water colour average. Picked up first alby 265 m middle of aldys and mayor. Headed east from there, water 20.5 soon after loads of albys right through to 800m where we had a smallish stripey chase one right up to the boat. After soaking a livey for 20 min with no joy headed out to the aldy knoll to drift some baits for the night. dragged up a large oil fish est 50 kg for our trouble. Re set gear at 6.15 am temp 19.5 and headed back to where we saw the marlin. Worked That area 5-6 nm inside 712 had a alot of bait, temp stayed at 19.5 water still average. With weather slowly deteriating made our way back. Seeing nothing of interest realy until slightly north of the pins around 80-140 m , loads of bait at 10-40 m and schools of kahawai on the surface gannets diving etc. unfortunatly with tide getting low had to head in. Anyway was good to see a marlin first trip out, hopefully be back out there soon.

friday 28th. we trolled from the aldermans to the pins and out to the 200m mark. were pretty much the only boat out there. light northerly pretty sloppy and overcast with rain. was very fishy caught albies and skippies continuosly. 6 albies and 12 skippies. no strikes, water temp around 19.5 to 20. went again on 1st jan. hung around the pins a bit more but worked the water to the 200m mark again. nice sunny day no wind, saw lots of bait but not as many biting as friday. cruised around in the sun having a fish raiser following the gin palaces in my little stabi 509 with 16ft surf cast rods for outriggers. trolled all day and used 65ltrs...the area looks like it has potential and is only 2hrs from auckland and a short 35mins boat ride with the aldermans for shelter if you need. good small boat possy.

Felt fishy, so we gave it a good hammering with no luck. Headed out to 1000m and bird life disappeared - though we did see manta, dolphins and whale. Max. Temp for us was 21.6. | thursday gear in middle ground worked up to hook skippys thick as then headed to mayor 300 plus water was best, temp in heat of day 21.5 with hotspots to 22 pilot whales etc, water not to ba,d aldies to mayor not the birds and skippys but. ova nite at mayor back to aldies much of the same, little albies at aldies water green as round aldies soaked a livey at the 70 heaps of bait gannetts dolfhins no bites but. vhf chat one fish dropped some freejumpers.not alot of boats doing it but!! in closing think the water just has to fill in a bit as it moved alot ova nite big temp breaks.yes fish dont eat water but they dont eat calanders either, good luck on you tusk hunting. |

| we trolled the aldie pins out to the 500m on friday. got a couple of albies but no where near as much bait as last week. water was 22c and looked bluey purple from the 200m mark onwards. gotta be some marlin there soon. thats the third attempt in two weeks so hopefully fourth times a charm. |

Did a run out from Tairua on Wed 9 Jan, best water was 20.1, and had to stop catching the ablies and skippes to the north of the aldermans in around 140m. Then on Sat 12 Jan did another run. The bait fish were still in the general area, however no skippies, just albies. On both days the shot gun did the damage. The water had changes on Sunday with best temp being 22. A couple of long days, no strikes. On both runs each of my sons came for a ride, after winding in the albies all day they are eyeing up the goldies. ------------- Those that say it can't be done are being overtaken by those doing it. |

| We were out on Saturday off the Aldy Pins. Got 23 Skips/albies so plenty of bait around. 2 Sanfords boats out there with spotter plane scooping up everything... No strikes or any marlin spotted though. Well see how we go this Saturday. |

hey guys I'm heading up the coro next weekend for a couple weeks for a troll, and hopefully snag a fish, but boat won't arrive there til monday, so this coming weekend if anyone wants an extra crew member, ill drive anywhere basically and pay whatever, and i can clean like a mexican, and got a couple rods, nothing flash just a couple TLD50s and that, but super keen to get amongst on sat/sun just flick me a PM.keen 4 trolling, but even out for a jig or stickbait or hell, ill even consider trying to catch a snapper! anything, im down like a clown!

Middle of the bay and out towards Centre has been good over the last week or two. Look for the bait balls on your sounder and they're mainly maccas. Some XXL sized ones too so good option in the tank for out wide...... ------------- Online... |

Mate I happened to be at the jetty and helped you guys to get it OFF the boat. How the hell you got it ON there out at sea is an incredible feat  I saw the tag in it and assumed you tried to let her swim away, nice fish! | Heating up! I had four bites in the space of a couple hours. Radar got1 and had a couple more in the gear. 1 for RnR. 1 for niggly. Levante and leilani had fish up. Immigrant and tyla dropped fish. Heard a bunch more but can't remember names. It's all go from here!! |

Good old skippies. Ate the 2nd one as I was clearing the gear after we hooked up. Then we thought it dropped the 1st one and come back 4 the 2nd one and nailed that one about 3m behind the boat. It was mean! To see a fish come in that close all lit up and nail a bait just under the boat. In the end we had 2 circle hooks in each corner of its mouth. Ended up just having to cut 1 line. Monday before last, Blake's 1st for 013' and his 3rd so far. Couple days later, popped another one.  Yum yum, shmoked loon. Wish this wind would settle down. |
