Also reckon they could use retrofit the Plastic Waka afters its 11 days of usefullness come to an end and at 2mill that would surely triple the Navy defense budget.  We could park it out off wahike or something to let all comers now we mean buisness.

NZ Navy does a great job working with MFish to actively stop and catch poachers. So hush to all you haters

Can't be our navy. It's got more than 1 gun. Although I do understand that they are interested in the alternative propulsion shown as their engines keep breaking.

I hear the government are considering options for our air strike arm too...

Shot Gundry (aka 'the man')! You are obviously proud to be a Kiwi, and so appreciate the work that goes on to protect NZs fisheries. Do you think the NZ navy has any choice as to how combat ready it can be, when it has to spend what little money the govt gives it, to meet both our international obligations and ensure our coasts are protected.

Maybe next time you decide to bag on your own navy or country for that matter, make sure you know what your talking about, and possibly even consider why it is that way?

 Happy Diving.

Sure theyre funny, I think it is also amusing  to compare our navy to others. However, on a forum like this I just would have thought that choosing to 'hate on' the navy is a little unecessary?

Same could be said for Gundry not two days ago? In all jokes there is a hint of malice and if you wanna take the piss, then expect someone to get the wrong end of it. Ask JRDO.

Like the photos - nice - funny - but change the name and delete NEW ZEALAND  navy from the header!

as has been said they are NOT responsible for their budget the idiots in wellington are.

They do as I am sure we all agree a great job with the rubbish funding they get - and have done for as long as I can remember.

I think you all need a big cup of chill the hell out - it's only a joke ppl!

I'm sure Gundry meant no offence to the Navy and appreciates the hard work they do protecting the coast from poachers etc as I'm sure we all appreciate :)

Ahhh, FF raises a legit point that others have had me up about. Namely, do these random 'humorous' or 'boobilicious' posts have any place in the spearos forum? Some say the 'briney bar' is where this stuff belongs (including this pic which is a repost directly from the briney bar) and that clicking on a new thread in the spearo section should lead to reading something at least vaguely spearo related. Others insist that anyone identifying themselves as a 'spearo' should be able to post whatever they want, within forum rules. So say yous?

Should have added to my earlier post:

Apart from that the fact post shows a certain amount of ignorance;

The kayak look very much like its modelled on the USS Missouri (887ft long 209 feet from keel to mast tip, 108 feet wide 58,000 tons speed 33 knots)  which even the Americans have now mothballed

The biggest Ship the NZ Navy had was in fact the light cruiser HMNZS  Royalist at about 7,360 tons and 512 ft long 33knots built in 1942 sent to NZ in 1955

The ship most know from the battle Plate days was HMNZS Leander built in 1928 and was the first in her class of 8 ships but only weigh in at 7,270 tons but was a bit longer at 554.9 feet.

As to other pic’s, the NZ navy has never had its own Fleet Air Arm so that’s misleading (the air force people on here can answer for themselves on those photos)

Also if you understood dress code the uniform is not ours – only 3rd world dictators and US Navy wear that amount of rubbish on them.

All in all however I like the idea of the yanks using humans as there underwing weapon systems – given how many of there own people they have killed over the years its perhaps fitting….

Most all of the true dickheads that have posted on these forums have gone away coz they were ignored or got bored.

If there is little interest in off-topic threads then they too get ignored and die. I figure natural selection saves you censorship LJ, and I ain't a fan of censorship anyway.

In related (off topic) news: One of my old work colleagues got done today for having two automatic weapons, he didn't know about, inside a couple of mannequins.

He has a moustache. Nuff said.

Military enthusiasts are made up of people who wanted to be part of the military but aren't. They do know a lot but. However, Joe Spearo does not know Jack Chit.

Crikey the navy lads seem a bit touchy - I would say I'm pretty typical in my opinions - we all know that we have world class defence people, but it is ALWAYS a joke in the eyes of the general population how little we spend, and how the poor beggars are always being downsized. We are laughing of course at our own selves as voters who have let this situation arise and laughing because we understand how frustrating it must be for those people.  Although, to be fair, most of us also quite like the idea of a small elite force participating in international conflict where we punch above our weight.  This cost cutting is one of the ways that half of the population pay no net tax at all.  Keep up the good work, but yes you can laugh at us voters too, lads.

As to the concept of should it be allowed in here - we are such a separatist group that I expect few of us stray outside the Spearo's corner index which we bookmark.  We'd never see it in the bonehead bar.  It's mid winter and there's no diving.  Of course the boys need some light hearted relief.  Within reason, obviously.

I took the original post as more of a reference to our poor defence funding policies than the questioning the quality of the men and women that make up our armed forces.

It is easy to take things the wrong way on the internet.

On the "censor or not" front here I agree with UJ - we don't get too many off-topic threads that develop a life of their own (although often threads that start ON topic wander off on a major tangent).

On the diving front -I am heading to Karikari Peninsula this weekend - yee haa

+1 yeah that was how it was intended.  Extremly proud of what they manage to acheive on such a limited budget.

Probably from his training LJ. Moggy is ex Navy.

I used to have a PA who had served in the navy and her husband is still in.  She was a "writer" I think the term is and spent time on the Canterbury (the one sunk in Deep Water Cove, BOI).  She and her husband are great examples of our armed forces folk.

Also had a staff member who was a Captain in the Territorials - we gave him the time away to serve in the Middle East and he was another fine example.  He was offered promotion and other postings etc. but decided not to.

Nah LJ I'm just a fountain of useless information...
Sometimes it’s correct!

But like a lot that live above the water in the service I did wonder about you guys who live below it... we always thought the submarine people were a little "waterlogged" and slower to catch on come's from being an audience of one most of the time I suspect….

Jokes fine by the way - but as I said deleting NZ from the post would have been much better.

It’s a very sore point with a lot of past and serving personal the state of our armed forces especially the Navy given how much water we are surrounded with and when the Government buys things like cargo ships and then have the arrogance/audacity/downright stupidity as Chairman Helen did to name them after a fighting ship - well that just happens to add insult to injury.
and yes I actually served a bit of time on Canterbury when it was new and a lot of time on Waikato and am personally disgusted with the civilians naming non-combat ships with the names of ships that have a very proud history.

End of my rave sorry about that guys may you continue to suck air for a while more.
