Hey there guys I must've posted about 100 topics on different kayaks and i was damn sure that i was going to be getting the profish 400 but now with the new prowler 4.3 out i'm not sure. I know that the 4.3 isn't out yet but from those who went to the boat show or may have even tried out the prototype what do you think of it in relation to the profish 400. I want to make the most informed decision as with uni and all $1700 or $2150 is serious money for a poor student and i don't want to have any regrets. Cheers Dan

I think it is a misconception to compare these 2 boats. The Prowler 4.3 is only 100mm shorter than a Profish 440, but 300mm longer than the Profish 400. A much better comparison is the P13 to the Prowler 400 and the 4.3 to a 440. So I guess a Prowler 4.7 is on its own. Using these comparisons the prices also look more similar.

Dk1991 you can't be that poor dude in the softbait section you going on about buying a synit rod which is about $700-800 on its own! Anyway just try paddling them if your serious about buying.

Nah, but if i buy all this stuff i will be. I'm using up all the money i've saved up from when i was 9 till now. So 11 years worth of saving up and working. Rather use it on this stuff then studies  Man gotta love NZ

Hey Dan,
I understand the need for researching before you buy. But I see you have been enquiring about yaks since at least December 2010
 The 440,400 and I would guess the 4.3 will all provide a great fishing platform. Guys used to paddle logs and still get decent fish. The fishability of kayaks has increased so much in the years I've been fishing and most of the manufacturers have their heads screwed on right. Although, there are still some exceptions which make you wonder "what the heck?"
So get out there, try them all out, buy one that suits you, and come back with some awesome fishing reports with lots of pictures  ------------- Proud Prowler Roller, bowler and a$$holer since Feb' 2008.......not anymore, Profish 440 yeah boy!!! |

Looking at the 4.3 (Not that I have paddled one) I would call it $2500 because if you havn't done a great deal of paddleing you will struggle with out a rudder when the wind gets up...
Others will step up now and say it is not needed but as others above have said try before you buy
No matter what model you go for
As with the other questions you have been asking in the soft bait section I would weight till you have spent some time fishing from a kayak as there are different needs and wants from a rod it a kayak as many before you have found for them selfs .

As i recall the 400 is $1700 unruddered so your looking at around $2050 .
I was in the same boat as you mate , had my heart dead set on the 400 and that was going to be my next kayak . Then i heard about the 4.3 and decided to wait and see . Im glad i did to .
I was supposed to have a test paddle of the 4.3 but got back from a fishing trip to late so missed out .
I can still try it out but dont have to .
I know 2 mates who both paddle the 4.7 and they both say the 4.3 is very very fast and quicker to get moving than the 4.7 .
For me the 4.3 has some quality features and in my opinion is one of the best kayak fishing platforms going around .
Ill be paddling one sooner rather than later .
As the other guys have said if these are the 2 yaks you have narrowed it down to then go for a paddle in both before you make your mind up .

Yeah, post something up when you get to have a paddle? I'm stuck between the 400 and 4.3 because i've heard that the 400 has good stability but the 4.3 has a nicer set up, the bait tank, seat etc. |

What you just need to do is get some seat time in each one, my bet is that you'll end up with the 400  The only thing that annoys me about my 400 is not getting more time out in it! |

i recently got a 400 with rudder, didn't even take it for a test, got store discount, flagged the paddle and seat ( cos i already had them) , cost $1799 i think! thats still $700 cheaper than a rudder'd 4.3 and without the discount it would have been $580 cheaper.your choice, your wallet! and im not disapointed
