Hi there, I'm after a cheap and cheerful overhead slow jig rod, not fussed about the brand or looks, 8-12kg or 6-10. I just want to give it a go and see if I enjoy slow jigs but not sure if they work in the harbour. cheers

I'd consider a new Shimano Divergex PE1.5 for cheap and cheerful.

But if you only ever fish the harbour, I probably wouldn't bother (other than slow jig rods actually making quite good sets for inshore bait fishing). The harbour is more about bringing fish to you than hoping you bump into one on the drift, my 2c anyway.

Might be worth looking at the deals at Marine Deals. I picked up a Shimano Backbone slow jig rod for just over $100. That has worked well for me and they always have a bargain or two.

You can fish slow jigs like micro jigs and sliders with a spinning soft bait set up.

Micro jigs would be much better in the harbour than sliders, I find sliders work better in deeper water where they can be fished straight up and down.

thanks got all the replies. I'd use it mainly out west on deep drifts, the harbour question was just in a "wonder if" type scenario. Haven't had noteworthy success in the harbour the handful of times I went out, so wondering if it's me being at wrong time at the wrong spot or if stinky bait is a thing of the past. Probably bit of both…
I have a softbait set, you're not the first recommending it. May have to dust it of. But if one has an old overhead slow jig rod bouncing around, i'd be keen still
