Hi guys, just getting setup to catch them Kingis around the Hauraki.

Looking at a livebait / jigging setup, preferably lever drag.

Saltist 30T and the likes would be cool. Don't know if the TLD can be jigged OK?

Let me know what you have cheers!

Nicholas

I have a Backbone elite overhead jigging rod for sale if you are interested (in really good condition) and also a almost brand new Energy concept overhead jigging rod (only used on two trips and yet to catch a fish).

Anything can be jigged to some extent, the better question is whether it'll catch many fish and if you'll have a miserable time doing it.

TLD would be a terrible jig reel.

Saltists aren't really built for it, but doesn't stop heaps of kiwis giving them arseholes by trying. 8kg of drag probably at the bottom end of useful.

I'd have a good look at the Shimano Speedmaster 12II, basically a cheap Talica, excellent livebait reel that will still jig reasonably well too.

EDIT: The Backbone Elite overheads are an awesome bargain intro-level rod, get the heavier one if you plan to livebait with it, also work as a light deep-drop setup.

Hi mate, I've got an okuma metaloid 5ii (2 speed), spooled with PE 5 (50lb) jigging braid, on a CD Rods Nano Fast Jig 200-300g rod I'm about to list for sale. Has dealt to plenty of Gulf kings, been well looked after and in great condition (was serviced by Swordfish Steve/Reel Repair Guy about a year ago and only used a couple of times since). $400.
